Halloween Extravaganza: Favorite Horror and Creepy Podcasts

Welcome to October, my favorite month of the year! Marching band competitions are in full swing, the air here is crisp, the night sky bright with moon and stars, leaves change color and fall and crunch when you walk through them, horror movies are everywhere, and Halloween is coming. Here at Devil’s Elbow, we love horror and scary stories and Halloween (…obviously), and to celebrate, we have a month of bonus posts to go along with our regular recaps.

Sit back with a cup of hot apple cider(1) (liberally dosed with the alcohol of your choice; I recommend rum or vodka) and celebrate the season with us.

Wing’s Favorite Horror and Creepy Podcasts

Lake Clarity

Summary: Five teens head up to Camp Clarity to celebrate their last summer together, but little do they know they’re about to stumble on dark secrets that surround the lake. Caves, concrete structures, and eerie coincidences are a common place around Lake Clarity. Before they know it, the teens find themselves face to face with an evil force that’s been locked away for a long time. Join Seth, Ally, Mike, Erin, and Brandon as they adventure through the Lake Clarity area, and discover the past of the supposedly cursed campgrounds!

Season one is finished, and available as one supercut episode, which I’ve listened to twice already on road trips because I loved it so much. It’s tense and entertaining and sometimes creepy, and I ended up adoring the characters quite a bit.

Nightmare on Fear Street

Nightmare on Fear Street is a weekly podcast on all things R.L Stein. Join your spooky hosts Zack and Meg as they delve into all the works of R.L. Stine from Goosebumps to Fear Street.

The No Sleep Podcast

A horror fiction podcast mostly built around stories from the NoSleep reddit. The production values are great, I love a bunch of the voice actors, and the stories are almost always entertaining and at least a little creepy. My favourites:

Down in the Library Basement” (There’s something in the library basement. It’s sort of like a giant spider, but not. And then there are adventures.)

Groundskeeper to a Ghost Town” (Pretty much what it says on the tin.)

There’s Nothing in Forest Glen National Park” (Lies. There is very much something in Forest Glen National Park, and it is horrifying and wonderful.)

The Wilson Ranch Incident” (A 911 call leads to terror and confusion and I would listen to 100 hours of this story.)

RetRead Podcast

Anna brings Surge on the great American 90’s childhood literary journey that he missed out on. Reading and reviewing retro books/series from the 90’s: Fear Street; Goosebumps; The BSC, Animorphs; and more.

Determined to find out the truth behind her loved one’s murder, Jessie soon discovers more than she bargained for, unveiling terrifying mysteries about her own town – The Endgrave may be more than a local legend after all…

(1) I’m sure many of you will be thinking of pumpkin spice everything right about now. You can keep it. I hate all things pumpkin, except for scooping out their gooey innards and carving their flesh.
